Last Friday was my 29th birthday. It was also the first day that the UTA Red Line took passengers on a ride. And we were lucky enough to be a part of it!
I don't know about your kids, but for some reason trains are incredibly fascinating around here. The idea of riding a train is almost as good as Christmas. Throw in some train whistles and conductor hats there is not much better.
If you live in the Salt Lake Valley, particularly on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley, you know that travel isn't nearly as efficient as it could be. This is all about to change. UTA is opening 2 new Trax lines on Aug. 7. One that goes through West Jordan out to Daybreak and another through West Valley.
One thing about new train lines is the increased need for safety precautions around them. At our train ride, we were reminded to always look both ways when crossing a track, to only use designated crossings and to stay behind the yellow line while waiting for a train to arrive. The kids were advised to remind their parents NEVER to race through a train crossing to try and beat the train.
If you think your family would love a train ride, head to one of the Mid Jordan Line Stations on August 3 with a donation of non perishable food for the food bank, and get a free ride. If, however, you are unavailable to ride on the third, you can leave a comment below to enter to win a family pass good for one round trip during the month of August.
